Kim linked this military “breakthrough” to a general production plan that the North Korean Armed Forces must complete by the end of the year. The KPA’s artillery units, “charged with an important firing duty,” will receive the new weapon system.

The Rodong Sinmun newspaper added that the DPRK’s defense industry companies, under the Second Economic Committee, responsible for external sales of military equipment, fulfilled the production plan for the first half of 2024.
The missile launchers produced during this period will be deployed and used by the KPA’s “Western Operations Group,” the newspaper reported. State media did not specify the name or type of the new missile system, nor the factories responsible for its production.
Photos released by Rodong Sinmun show Kim Jong Un walking through what appears to be a large hangar with about a hundred Hwasong-11D missile launchers (TELs), likely produced at the facility. The Hwasong-11D is a short-range ballistic missile that the DPRK likely tested for the first time in April 2022.
The flight range of the Hwasong-11D missile is estimated to be approximately 100-180 kilometers, and each launcher is designed to launch four short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs).
